| In 2003, ACC completed an
investment in Stellar Fisheries, Inc. (“Stellar”).
Stellar is the second largest producer of
pasteurized blue crabmeat in the Philippines.
Founded in 1993, Stellar provides employment
opportunities to the rural poor, particularly
women; encourages environmental conservation
and sustainable resource management while
generating foreign currency. ACC’s
proposed investment in this profitable,
growing company will build up sustainable
financing to carry forward long term conservation
activities in the Negros and Masbate regions
in the Visayan Sea, where Stellar operates.
A small incremental charge per container
of crabmeat sold will serve to fund the
conservation efforts. |
