| In March 2001, the ACC group
completed a majority investment in the Ten
Knots group. Founded in 1982, Ten Knots
owns the “responsible tourism”
destination El Nido Resorts (“El Nido”)
as well as large land holdings on the islands
of Palawan. ACC’s involvement in El
Nido will help ensure that the resort and
land development does not damage the local
environment but will, in fact, proactively
support conservation of the rich biodiversity
in the area. A guest user fee will provide
sustainable funding for environmental programs
within the Marine Protected Area. Ten Knots
overcame numerous obstacles related to the
tourism industry to produce profitable financial
results for 2001 and 2002. |
